ABOUT ME

Patrick van der Plaat is an author, theologian, chaplain, and former pastor whose life and ministry have crossed Europe, Latin America, and Australia. His work explores Christian identity, spiritual formation, relationships, and the Kingdom of God - connecting theology with everyday life.

Two people wearing yellow Brazil national soccer team jerseys are taking a selfie indoors near a large window with trees outside. The man has short gray hair and a beard, and the woman has shoulder-length brown hair.

Patrick’s life and ministry have taken him across the Netherlands, Brazil, Australia, and back again.Together with his wife Janine and three children he served as a pastor, crossing more than geography alone. His fifteen-year intercultural experience deepened his interest in how culture, identity, faith, and community intersect.

He has served as a pastor, taught theology, and now works as a chaplain. Across those different settings, one question has kept returning: what does it mean to live from an identity that is received rather than constructed?

That question sits behind much of his writing, including Kingdom Identity.

Currently, Patrick works as a chaplain for a large organization in the Netherlands serving people with special needs.

A Life Across Cultures

WHAT I WRITE ABOUT

Identity

Who we are, where identity comes from, and what it means to live from a God-given identity rather than constantly trying to construct one.

Relationships

How identity is lived out with God, with others, and within community.

Formation

How beliefs, habits, relationships, culture, and the Spirit shape who we become.

Kingdom

How the good news of Jesus is larger than private spirituality — shaping how we live, relate, serve, and participate in God’s work in the world.
